The A-Z challenge is here again, such fun and what a crowd of us are participating:) The hardest part of this challenge for me anyway is deciding what I am going to blog about for 26 days! I begin to think months before hand. Plenty of time. NOT. We all know that feeling
‘There’s months to go - what?! it’s next week, you must be kidding!!’
I have got there in the end.
This year I have decided to try for shorter posts, difficult for me, I find short and sweet soooo difficult:(
The English Language,my theme for this year. I wanted to do something on this subject but really for months could not think what aspect of a language so huge, diverse and global. Especially as I wanted short and sweet!
Different word lists each day? Nah
Different country of the borrowings? Nah
And so difficult to fit into an a-Z format.
I have finally decided on a short history of the language from its uncertain start to it’s initial journey across the pond - so not modern history - not enough letters in the alphabet and not enough time.
I am no linguist, no historian and the history of the English language goes back to the beginning of time - well, no, not that long but the islands of Britain have been populated for a long long time. So if you are looking for a series of learned papers on the subject do not visit here. It will sparse and maybe will interest no-one but me.
However considering its very dodgy beginnings, its near extinction a couple of times, and the marginal place it’s homeland occupied, the fact that it is a global language now is a remarkable facet of the history.
So come April 1st, did you ever kiss a frog will be home to The English Language.
