Many centuries ago a reasonably rich man named William married an even richer girl called Mary. Her money became his - life was unfair back in the 1600s - told you it was many centuries ago:) He went on to forge a rich and varied career in politics serving two or three kings of England . Good at diplomacy and intrigue he became a power in the land. He also created a stunning home in the country.
William and Mary had three sons and one daughter . One boy died, one inherited and the youngest joined the army and became a Colonel. The youngest son of this youngest son, became a surgeon/doctor and moved from England to Wales. The third son of this doctor also became a doctor in Wales. He married twice and the third daughter of the second marriage, married a land agent. Their second daughter married an accountant and their third child became my grandmother.
Voila, like Genesis a whole paragraph of begets:)
The splendid house of William and Mary is now in the hands of the National Trust and I am off next week to visit my roots and see what more I can find about about John. My friend is coming with me, I can not travel easily now, she has done a great deal of this research for me anyway, she deserves to come.
The house, gardens and deer park.
I will leave triumphant but exhausted, so will not be writing much about it for a while, as I recover. But am excited to be going, not normally a stately home fan but this one is personal:)
As they are stately home folk, maybe I can push that part of the family tree back even further, fingers crossed and here’s hoping.
